Living In-Between and Loving Others

This feels like a very selfish season of my life. I don’t mean that in a horrible way, like I’m just so self centered because I care about my family and our future. I mean it in a way that just states a fact. Right now I spend more time than usually planning and thinking about myself and my family. Most of that is out of necessity, but some of it is useless worry. There is a cure for that though. Loving and serving others.

We’re not the only ones living “in between.” I have many dear friends who are in that type of season themselves…

waiting for that positive pregnancy test…

waiting for children to come home from across the ocean…

waiting for that special someone to come into their lives…

waiting for that job offer…

waiting for the college acceptance letter…

waiting for healing…

And on and on and on and on it goes.

I’m sure, if you look around you, you’ll find several people in similar seasons. How can you reach out and love them today? Spend some extra time in prayer for them. Send a little text message, email, or note card. Drop a little gift on their front porch. Invite them out for coffee.

Don’t just extend your love to friends only. Pay for the person behind you in line at the Starbucks drive through. Buy a bouquet of flowers for the exhausted mom at the grocery store. Pay for the the young family’s meal at the restaurant you have lunch at today. Look for ways to bring others joy. You never know how one small act will impact their life… and yours.

Reaching out and loving others has a beautiful side effect… you receive the back splash of their joy and gratitude. Suddenly your day gets a little brighter and your heart is filled with thankfulness. Try it. You’ll like it.
