WFW: Faith Hope and Love

I love how this verse so clearly shows what Faith, Hope, and Love really are. We all now the verse at the end of the famous “love chapter” in 1 Corinthians … “and these three remain; faith, hope, and love. And the greatest of these is love.” But, this verse out of Thessalonians tells us what they are! Faith is work. We work for God because we believe in who He is and we believe in the One He sent. “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” John 6:29. Next we are told that our labor is prompted by our love for God. When we become followers of Jesus Christ He comes to dwell in us and fills us with His Spirit. His love for others is now in our hearts. We labor for others because we love Jesus, and we love them! We should work tirelessly until Christ comes for us because we love Him so. Last is Hope. Hope is one of my favorite words of all time. I love hope. Hope gives us endurance. As our pastor says… hope is faith looking forward. We can have excitement and cheerful anticipation because we know what is coming … eternity with Christ! Hope allows us to endure trials of many kinds. There is the phrase “I can do anything for an hour (week, month, year) because I know what’s coming.” It’s like mothers who endure childbirth because they know they’ll hold their precious baby at the end. Or Christians who endure torture because they know they will meet Jesus and He is glorified by their faithfulness. That’s Hope. Let us refresh our understanding of faith, hope, and love DAILY! : )
