I am God and there is no other…

Thank you all for the wonderful anniversary wishes!! John and I had a great time celebrating four years and it was so nice to be away for 3 whole days!

It’s official!! John is now the new Youth Pastor for Avalon Hills Bible Church! We are so excited about this new ministry God has laid before us. Last night John preached to the entire congregation during the evening service, afterward they were allowed to ask him any questions the had … major spotlight moment! John did an amazing job and when the congregation voted on who they wanted for their new Youth Pastor it was nearly unanimous in John’s favor!:)I am so proud of my wonderful husband and so blessed that he is mine!

I wanted to share a little of what John spoke about last night because it was so powerful. He talked about idolatry. None of us like that word… it makes us a little uncomfortable. Unless of course we’re talking about the Israelites or other religions, etc… But when we’re talking about ourselves? Uh oh – squirm time. The sad truth is that we’ve all been guilty of it at some point in our lives. Maybe even now…

Idolatry is when you let ANYTHING AT ALL take the place of God in your life. Anything that knocks God off the pedestal is an idol. Idolatry is greed. Psalm 127 says that “unless the Lord build the house, it’s builders labor in vain.” God is telling us that everything is because of Him and anything we do outside of him is vanity.

I have been guilty of idolatry. If you haven’t read about my struggle with infertility please take the time to do that now. You can find it here. It talks about how my desire to have a baby slowly but surely took precedence in my life, so that Christ was no longer at the center. I didn’t even realize it was happening until it had already gotten to the point of idolatry. Be careful – it can take you by surprise! Ever heard the Mercy Me song “Slow Fade?” It will make you think harder about the “little things” that we don’t think really matter. All the compromises that really do separate us from the God we love.

Let’s work extra hard to examine our lives and make sure we keep Christ at the center. Let there be only one throne in your life and let GOD BE ON IT! Anything else is idolatry.

Do not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.”

Exodus 34:14

It’s my friend Sandy’s 2 year blog -iversary! Stop by here and congratulate her!:)
