WFW: 2 Chronicles and a chapel blessing…
“The eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.”
2 Chronicles 16:9
Now that you all know the wonderful story of how God paved the way to seminary, I can share the wonderful blessings poured out on us by our church family. My heart is overflowing with love for them, and a deep sadness that we will no longer be worshipping together every week.
Last Sunday was our last with them (though we’ll be back for many visits). The service started out as usual with announcements and then fantastic worship. Then Chap asked John to come forward and share with everyone the story I shared yesterday. It was so neat to have them all rejoicing with us! Then it was time for the sermon. It was titled “I commend you to God.” It was all about us!! Chap shared our story over the last 5 years, with a great focus on our time as foster parents and the way God moved in our lives up to that decision. He shared how we came to the decision of leaving for seminary. Then he read verse after verse after verse exorting us in Christ and commending us into His care. He was speaking some of the words that Paul spoke to Timothy as he looked at my husband with tears filling his eyes. I bawled through the whole thing, of course. Then he had us come to the front and every in chapel came to lay hands on us and pray. It was so powerful! I bawled through that too. The prayers people prayed are too amazing and huge to even begin to write them here… but believe me when I say the Holy Spirit was very very present.
After Chapel we all went to our friends the Baldwin’s where they threw us a big lunch. It was so much fun and we had a chance to take pictures with everyone one last time. (I haven’t dowloaded them yet, but when I do I will post them). They blessed us even more with cards, montary gifts, and an 8×10 matted and framed picture of us on the parade ground! It’s posted on the VMI website here. Watch the photo show on the home page and when you see a smiling couple (I’m blonde, and John is handsome in his army uniform) that’s us! We’re famous!! On the back of the frame Chap wrote the words “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you on the water. Jesus said, Come.” These are the words that confirmed to John that he was to attend seminary. We were blown away by the love shown to us.
The image above is the VMI chapel. I chose the verse form 2 Chronicles because it is to true of chapel. If there ever were a people whose hearts were fully committed to the Lord… you’d find them in that building. We will miss them terribly… it feels as though a vital limb has been taken from my body. But, we know that we will see them again and we are joined through our love for Christ Jesus!
